In December of 2019, Lauren talked for the first about her debut solo project in an interview with Billboard.
I’m so proud of the way that I’ve been able to articulate my point of view. I’m emo, so you’re gonna get some deep, dark lyrics from my soul, but some bops too… It’s gonna be really fun. I’m really excited to share it with the world, but I’m just kind of packaging everything and still finishing up some songs.
In another interview for the same company she talked a little about the process of writing the EP touching themes like mental health and love. She also add that the record would be "an unveiling [rather] than a discovery" of her own voice.
I feel like I’m really exploring my strength through my vulnerability. […] I learned that I am resilient. I learned that I really do have a lot of inner strength and power. And I learned that I’m protected and guided spiritually, and I leaned in deeper than I ever have in my life.
